    Pregnancy is a precious and beautiful phase of every woman’s life. It is the phase where another human life is growing inside you and your body goes under tremendous changes due to hormonal changes in the body.

     Hair is the essential part of every women ’s beauty as women feel like a crowning glory if her hair is shiny, voluminous but also as the same way it also affects the self-esteem of women if the hair is of poor quality.

    Why hair fall occurs during pregnancy?

    In today’s modern lifestyle, there is no wonder that hair fall is the exceeding problem among women and there are numerous reasons for hair fall.

    In most of the cases, pregnant women usually experience thick, lustrous hair as estrogen hormone increases during pregnancy but after pregnancy level decreases and again hair fall starts. But also the same way it does not the same for every woman as progesterone level also increases which makes the hair drier and brittle results in hair strands fall out. The first trimester may stress the body as the balance of hormonal shifts occurs to support the growing baby.

    But doesn’t worry about the hair fall problem occur during pregnancy as this is mainly due to hormonal imbalances and physical changes in the body and indeed it is the temporary problem until the baby is born.

    There are various number of reasons for Hair fall.

    Poor Nutrition

    Our body nutritional requirement during pregnancy is high and in first trimester women generally experience nausea and vomiting, resulting in the inadequate nutritional intake which causes nausea. Also during pregnancy women require more amount of iron intake to support their growing baby and insufficient intake lead to hair loss. In addition, not enough consumption of vitamins, proteins, and minerals also cause hair to fall. On the other hand, taking too much of vitamin A which is Retinol also can cause hair loss.

    Hormonal Changes

    Hormonal fluctuation occurs during pregnancy is the normal thing in this phase. This hormonal fluctuation affects the hair growth cycle, leading to hair shedding, in scientific terms called as Telogen effluvium but also this condition corrects itself within two to three months without intervention.

    Thyroid hormone deficiency

    Hypothyroidism is a common and major disorder in women’s lives. This disorder leads to inadequate production of thyroid hormone which is necessary for regulating and maintaining the digestive system, basal metabolic rate, mental health, and the nails and hair. The deficiency in this hormone leads to hair loss.

    Genetic factors

    There is no wonder that if your parents were suffering from hair fall problem then you might also be get affected with the same condition. Medication and other treatment might help to get rid of this problem.

    Diseases of the scalp

    Skin allergies and condition affect the scalp condition results in hair fall.

    Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

    PCOS is the condition where ovaries produce an excessive amount of male hormones results in women generally experience increased hair growth.

    Other Hormonal Causes

    Use of birth control pills, abortion or miscarriage could also be the reasons for hair fall.

    Illnesses

    There are some illnesses which cause the hair to fall. If the women are suffering from gestational diabetes, blood pressure and taking medication for the same, then it also leads to hair fall problem. For this, women should also consult an obstetrician as soon as possible as it affects the growing baby.

    Stress

    Stress is the major factor for hair fall during pregnancy. As hormonal changes and mood swings have negative impacts on your hair. To avoid stress, do meditation, listen to music and do the things which give you relaxation.

    By looking at the above points, I can say hair fall does not require medical emergency but its underlying causes such as nutritional deficiency, some illnesses affect your body and infant as well. So it is required you to consult an obstetrician to avoid some serious condition. Also to tackle hair fall problem, women should avoid tight hairstyles like tight ponytails and also avoid using hairstyling machines.

    Dandruff

    Dandruff and Dry scalp the inflammatory disorders which create free radicals, it loses the skin elasticity and makes the scalp dry.

    Hair fall occurs due to poor blood circulation in the scalp and dandruff is also another cause of Hair loss.

    There is some environmental impact on our hair and also by using styling products, heavy chemical loaded shampoos, our modern lifestyle by which we do ourselves damage our hair.     Hair greying is a natural process. There is a pigment called melanin which gives black colour to the hair when there is a lack of the pigment, hair becomes silver, grey or white in colour. The lack of melanin could be the imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants which promotes the ageing process.

    For every woman, it is necessary to ensure that your hair remains healthy during pregnancy and post-delivery. There are some easy and useful tips to maintain lustrous hair.

    How to take of your hair during pregnancy?

    Warm oil massage

    Oil massage is the best tip which helps in increasing blood circulation in the scalp and gives relaxation. But it is recommended to opt for natural oil such as olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, etc. Slightly warm up the oil and apply it on your scalp and head 2 -3 times a week to accelerate hair growth.

    Do not comb on wet hair

    Never use the comb when your hair is wet as hair strands are weak and tend to get break easily. So allow your hair to let it dry naturally. Also importantly always use the wide-toothed comb.

    Opt for mild shampoo and conditioner

    Wash the hair two times in a week with mild and herbal shampoo and also to make sure use conditioner after shampooing your hair. Conditioners make the hair moisturise, nourish and maintain the pH level of the hair. It helps to smoothen the hair cuticle which is the outer covering layer of each individual hair.

    Regularly Trim your hair

    During pregnancy, there is hormonal imbalance occur which affects the hair quality. So it is required to trim your hair to get rid of split ends, rough and damaged hair.

    Eat a balanced meal

    Whatever you take in your diet that will help your body and growing baby but the diet should be loaded with vitamins, minerals, and proteins (Balanced Diet). Eating a healthy diet will nourish your hair.
